Manchester United keen on Lammens or Martínez as new goalkeeper option | Manchester United

by Marcelo Moreira

Manchester United are intent on signing either Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp or Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s goalkeeping options before the close of the transfer window.

United are thought to prefer Lammens due to his age (23) and price (about £17m), with interest registered in the Belgian towards the end of last month. The Belgian is viewed as someone who could dislodge André Onana or Altay Bayindir and become the club’s No 1 on a long-term basis. But with the player not being given any guarantees of a first-team place under Amorim, there is acknowledgement at United that he may be reluctant to join.

Martínez turns 32 on Tuesday and therefore is not viewed at United as being a long-term option. His £35m asking price is also something of a concern at Old Trafford. But with Villa showing interest in Jadon Sancho, a deal could be done for the Argentina World Cup winner that involves Sancho as a makeweight.

Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund is in Italy as he looks to secure a loan move to Napoli. An agreement is in place with the Serie A champions and United expect the deal to happen, one that will include an obligation from Napoli to sign Højlund on a permanent basis if they qualify for the Champions League.

United are almost certain to end the window with no new midfield acquisition. Kobbie Mainoo’s wish to leave on loan will not be granted.
