Venezuela executive vice president Delcy Rodríguez said on Monday that dictator Nicolás Maduro signed a “external commotion” decree, which would “be activated immediately” in case of “any kind of aggression” against the South American country, which lives a moment of diplomatic tensions with the United States.
Rodríguez made the announcement at a meeting with the Chavista diplomatic corps, in which he said that the state of exception decree “gives special powers to the head of state to act on defense and security” if the United States “dare to attack.”
“What the US government, the Lord of the War [o secretário de Estado americano] Marco Rubio, is doing today against Venezuela is a banned threat by the United Nations Charter, ”said the deputy, broadcast by state broadcaster VTV.
In this scenario, said Rodríguez, Maduro would have “special powers” to, for example, mobilize the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb) across the country, to take military and immediately the infrastructure of public services, as well as the hydrocarbons and companies of basic sectors of the economy, to ensure their “full operation”, and activate “all citizen safety plans”.
The dictator could also take steps such as closing terrestrial, sea borders and aerials to protect, she said, the territorial integrity of Venezuela.
Rodríguez also warned that “no one, inside or outside the country, can promote, support, facilitate or defend external military aggression against Venezuela and [quem o fizer] will be judged in accordance with the laws of the Republic and with all the guarantees of the Constitution. ”
In late August, the Trump government sent eight war ships and a nuclear submarine to the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela, with the aim of preventing drugs to arrive in US territory, an operation that Venezuelan dictatorship considers an “excuse” for military intervention in the South American country.
Days later, the US also sent F-35 fighters to an aerodrome in Puerto Rico for operations against drug cartels in the Caribbean.
Since the beginning of the month, at least four drug vessels have been hit by US military attacks in the Caribbean Sea. In response, Nicolás Maduro’s regime has been conducting military operations and mobilizations and increasing Belicista rhetoric.
