India has officially become part of the exclusive group of nations equipped with the technology of ballistic missiles launched by Ferrovie. The successful test of the Agni-Prime missile, carried out on September 24 by a modified wagon, marks an important strategic progress for the country’s defense forces.
Developed by DRDR (Defense Research and Development Organization) in collaboration with the command of strategic forces, the system has been tested in a “complete operational scenario”, increasing the credibility of Indian nuclear deterrence.
The main advantage of the railway system is survival. Using the vast railway network of the country, which extends for over 60,000 kilometers and includes numerous tunnels, missiles can be easily moved and hidden, making them objectives extremely difficult to trace and destroy by an opponent.
The Agni-Prime missile, with a flow rate of up to 2,000 km, is able to hit the entire territory of Pakistan and strategic objectives in south-west of China, two countries with which India has geopolitical tensions and territorial disputes.
This development takes place in a context of growing modernization of the Chinese armed forces and regional tensions. The initiative places India at the same level of countries such as China, which is developing a similar system, and North Korea, which has already been testing this type.
Railway mobility offers a relatively economic and highly effective form to protect nuclear goods, altering strategic calculations and the balance of power in southern Asia.
