Entrepreneurs participate in Brazilian mission on US tariffs

by Marcelo Moreira

About 130 entrepreneurs and representatives of industrial associations are expected to participate between this Wednesday (3) and Thursday (4) in a mission in the United States led by CNI. The measure can open dialogue channels to try to reverse or reduce additional import rates on Brazilian products.

The agenda includes bilateral meetings, meetings with US entrepreneurs and parliamentarians, as well as a plenary with representatives of the public and private sector of both countries. A meeting with the Brazilian Ambassador in the United States, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, is also expected to happen. The focus is to strengthen dialogue and economic partnership between the Brazilian and American market.

Among the industrial sectors represented on this trip are some of the most affected by the tariff, such as machines and equipment, wood, coffee and ceramic. On Wednesday, through Ambassador Roberto Azevêdo, the National Confederation of Industry will participate in a public hearing related to the process opened by the United States Commercial Representative based on Section 301 of the 1974 Commerce Law. It allows to investigate whether policies or practices in other countries are unjust, discriminatory or restrictive to US trade.
