This Monday (29), Minister Edson Fachin became the president of the Supreme Court. Your term will be two years long. Alexandre de Moraes will be your deputy.
The position was from Minister Luis Roberto Barroso, who also commanded the Supreme Court for two years.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by President Lula and Vice Geraldo Alckmin. In addition, presidents of the House and Senate – Hugo Motta and David Alcolumbre were also present.

In his speech, Fachin stressed that the Brazilian Constitution will be respected and used:
“I assume to respect the Constitution and grasp limits. We will seek to cultivate virtue of the discernment to elect among the many good ideas that internal administrations had, those that the time has already arrived not to prevent those armor.” Fachin said
Moreover, he said that applying the Constitution is not only to comply with the law, but to ensure that it meets, with priority, those who have historically been forgotten, discriminated or silenced. According to the minister, this requires promoting real access to justice, especially for the most vulnerable groups of society:
“Obligation is to apply the Constitution with priority attention to those who are historically forgotten, silenced or discriminated, and this requires promoting access to justice.”
It was also emphasized that, according to him, none of the three powers can act thinking only of their own interests, as everyone should act in favor of the collective good and the public interest.
“It does not need any of them to act according to goals that distance themselves from the common good. The genuine rule of law leads to democracy, government of laws, not the government of violence.
