Defender David Luiz, currently at Pafos, Cyprus, was accused of threatening social worker Francisca Karollainy Barbosa Cavalcante. The complaint resulted in a protective measure granted by the court of Ceará, which determined that the player maintains a minimum distance of 100 meters from the victim, and banned him from any contact by telephone or social networks.
According to the report registered in August, Karollainy reported receiving intimidating messages attributed to the athlete. In one of them, he would have written, “You know I have money and power, so don’t ban the smart one. It would be sad your child having to pay the consequences of your actions. I can just make you disappear.” The social worker said she feared her own safety conditions and her son.
The messages would have been sent in the “temporary mode” of social networks, which automatically erases the content after a certain period. In another stretch, the player would have stated that he knew the woman’s location and “would never arrive at him.” The complainant’s defense stated that the situation was serious and compared the case of Eliza Samudio, highlighting the climate of fear reported by Karollainy.
In a video published on social networks, David Luiz denied the accusations and said he never threatened the social worker. He also stated that there was no face -to -face meeting between the two and that he did not attend the places mentioned by her. The defender recognized only the exchange of messages, but stressed that he would never have made any kind of threat.
The athlete’s press office issued a statement stating that, due to the secrecy of justice, the video will be the only public demonstration about the case. The company responsible for managing the image of David Luiz also admitted that there were messages and sending intimate images, but denied any threatening behavior by the player.
The court decision against the defender also prohibits that he names Karollainy’s name in interviews or publications on social networks. If it fails to comply with the determinations, it may be arrested immediately. The defense of the social worker stressed that he will not accept impunity and trust the progress of investigations.
David Luiz, 38, was accused while still in Fortaleza, a club with which he terminated a contract before returning to European football. The process is still underway in Ceará, and the responsible authorities should evaluate the next steps.
