Carlo Acutis was declared the first saint of the Digital Age during Mass celebrated by Pope Leo XIV this Sunday at the Vatican. The young man died in 2006 at the age of 15 leukemia. Acutis became the first saint of “Millennial” generation in ceremony conducted by the Pontiff, in St. Peter’s Square, in the Vatican.
The act was originally marked in April, but was postponed after Pope Franciso’s death. Leo XIV, elected in May, will preside over this type of event for the first time. The pontiff will also canonize Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Italian known for helping the needy and who died of polio in the 1920s.
The young man who learned codes on his computer to publicize faith attracted great attention from Catholic youth and will be elevated to the same level as Mother Teresa and Francisco de Assis.
