The Vatican prepares to canonize, this Sunday (7), Blessed Carlo Acutis, young Italian who was known to use the internet as an evangelization tool. Dead at age 15, due to a fulminant leukemia, Carlo will be the first officially recognized saint of the millennial generation, formed by people born between the 1980s and 1990s.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10am on Rome (5 am GMT) and will be conducted by Pope Leo XIV, the first large canonization rite under his pontificate, which began in May 2025.
Carlo’s canonization date was initially scheduled for April 27, during the adolescents’ Jubilee. However, the celebration was postponed after Pope Francis’ death in April this year.
During his pontificate, Francisco highlighted Carlo as an example of modern holiness. The young man became a symbol of the Catholic faith among the younger ones by uniting spirituality, accessible language and digital tools in his evangelizing mission.
“He did not settle in a passive faith. He saw Christ’s face in the most vulnerable. His testimony shows young people that true happiness is to put God first and serve him in the brothers,” Pope Francis said in one of his homilies about Carlo Acutis.
