Argentine Security Minister Patricia Bullrich announced on Thursday that the Javier Milei government expelled former Venezuelan deputy José Gregorio Noriega, ally of dictator Nicolás Maduro.
“This Venezuelan, sanctioned by the US and the EU [União Europeia] for assaulting the Legislative Assembly [da Venezuela] And arresting opposition deputies, was found in Argentina and expelled: he will never come back! ”Wrote Bullrich in X.
Noriega had gone to Argentina to watch the match between Lionel Messi’s selection and Venezuela tonight in Buenos Aires. The Portal Infobae reported that the former deputy had entered Argentine territory through the border with Brazil.
“Maduro’s henchman had entered [na Argentina] Yesterday coming from Brazil, on the eve of the game. He leaves today. Chavista terrorism has no place in our country! ”Added Bullrich.
Noriega was a deputy at the National Assembly of Venezuela for the Popular Will Opposition Party, but was expelled from the subtitle in 2019 due to his involvement in the so -called Scorpio Operation, a bribery scheme promoted by the Maduro regime to prevent the reelection of Juan Guaidó as president of the Legislature.
At the time, Noriega accused Guaidó, then recognized as Acting President of Venezuela by more than 50 countries, corruption and being a “dictator” within the party.
In 2020, he was involved in another Chavismo scheme to take control of the National Assembly, then with a majority of the opposition, and Venezuela’s Supreme Court, arose by Maduro, suspended the board of popular will and appointed another, chaired by Noriega.
In the same year, he was the target of sanctions from the United States and the EU, which blocked their assets and banned financial transactions and travel to these places.
