Alckmin says he has optimism in negotiations between Brazil -ea

by Marcelo Moreira

In an event this Friday (26), the vice president and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, said he saw a positive understanding between Brazil and the United States about tariffs.

Amid the recent approach between the two countries, Alckmin stressed that the Brazilian government has maintained a stance based on dialogue and negotiation. In addition, he said he will work to reduce the 50% rate on exported products from Brazil to the US:

“We will work to reduce this rate (…) on the other hand, exclude as many products we can from the tariff”

The possibility of this meeting was born from the short meeting between Donald Trump and Lula at the UN General Assembly, where both reported that there was an exchange. The American president said the Brazilian seems to be very friendly. Lula said there was a chemistry between them.

About this, Alckmin again stressed that there was never a lack of wanting to dialogue with the Americans:

“This has always been the stance of Brazil. And the Brazilian business community helped (…) it was taken an important step with the gesture of President Lula and President Trump”
