Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that he will meet with former US President Donald Trump next Monday (18). According to him, the partnership and the American force play an essential role in the course of the war against Russia.
“Ukraine reaffirms its willingness to work intensely to achieve peace. President Trump has shared the main points of his meeting with Russian leader. It is essential that the influence of the United States has an effect on the outcome of the situation,” Zelensky said in a statement.
The meeting will be in Washington and will have as its central agenda the next steps to end the conflict. “Thank you for the invitation,” added the Ukrainian President.
The announcement came shortly after the meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin, who ended without understanding. During the meeting, the Russian President repeated one of Trump’s campaign statements: that the war in Ukraine would not have occurred if he were in power.
Putin also stated that they both agreed to start a path toward peace, noting that, before any advance, it is necessary to deal with Russia’s historical concerns about Ukraine.
Trump, in turn, was succinct and said he will pass on NATO and President Ukrainian the points discussed with Russian leader.
