Supreme Federal Court (STF), Cristiano Zanin, was drawn as a rapporteur of the action filed to prevent the blockade of bank accounts of also Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The request was made by Federal Deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ), leader of the PT in the House.
In the request, the parliamentarian requests that all banks operating in Brazil will be prohibited from blocking or restricting Moraes access to financial services in response to the sanctions applied by the United States.
Last week, Alexandre de Moraes was included by the US government in the so-called Magnitsky Law, created to punish foreign authorities accused of human rights violations. The legislation allows the imposition of sanctions, such as the freezing of assets and financial restrictions, without the need for formal judgment, right to defense or contradictory. The decision departs exclusively from the US government.
Last Friday (01), Moraes publicly commented, for the first time, the sanctions. The minister said that he will ignore the punishment imposed by Donald Trump and hardly criticized those responsible for articulating it. “It is cowards and traitors of the homeland those who attack the Brazilian justice in collusion with foreign interests,” he said.
The request made by Lindbergh will still be analyzed by Minister Zanin, who may decide individually or take the case to the plenary of the Supreme Court.
