One worker has died and five are missing after a copper mine collapsed in Chile due to a magnitude 5 earthquake on Thursday (31).
According to the Codelco State Mining Company, nine others were injured. The accident occurred 100 km from the capital Santiago. Mining have been interrupted and rescue teams follow operations to find the missing.
“El Teniente” is the world’s largest underground copper mine and Chile the world’s largest metal producer that is essential for engines and renewable energy generation, as well as electrical wiring.
