Who is the “qanon shaman”, which magazine compared to Bolsonaro

by Marcelo Moreira

In this week’s edition, in which he stated that “Brazil offers the United States a lesson of democratic maturity” with the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022), the English magazine The Economist put on the cover an image of the Brazilian former Mandator characterized as Jake Angeli.

Nicknamed “Qanon Shaman”, Angeli became known worldwide by appearing a horn -skinned skin hat and carrying a nearly two meter spear (with the American flag) during the invasion of Donald Trump supporters to the US Congress on January 6, 2021, when the United States Legislature did the Certification Session of Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election in the presidential election of 2020.

Economist’s goal was to compare the episode to the invasion of public buildings in Brasilia on January 8, 2023-Bolsonaro will be tried in the Supreme Court (STF) from next Tuesday (2), on accusations of an alleged coup attempt after the 2022 election.

Angeli, whose full name is Jacob Anthony Angeli Chansley and who is 37 today, was a supporter of Trump and a Qanon fan, a group that emerged on the internet and defending the theory that there is a conspiracy of pedophiles who seek to dominate the world.

After his images in the invasion of the Capitol were released around the world, Angeli was arrested three days later. He stated to blame for obstruction of an official case in a court in Washington in September 2021 and November of that year he was sentenced to 41 months in prison.

He was also sentenced to pay a $ 2,000 fine and to serve a period of three years on parole after completing the prison sentence.

Angeli was detained in a Penitentiary in Arizona (his home state), was transferred to a recovery house (prison where inmates receive instruction on how to reintegrate to society) in March 2023 and released two months later, a year before the time expected to gain freedom, due to protocols from the federal prison office and the confession agreement.

Upon returning to the White House in January this year, Trump granted presidential forgiveness to about 1,500 accused of involvement on January 6, including the “Qanon Shaman.”

However, Angeli has been criticizing Trump. In July, in a series of posts in the X (of which several were deleted), he criticized the president not to release records of the lawsuit against financier Jeffrey Epstein (although since then republican management has made efforts to disclose them) and for support to Israel in the Gaza War.

“If this piece of stupid m* is fraud,” wrote Angeli, referring to Trump. “Oh yes, if it is Israel!

In another post, Angeli made comments targeted at Trump’s supporter James Woods about the Epstein case.

“You also went to Epstein Island [onde teriam ocorrido os crimes sexuais atribuídos ao financista]James? Because I’m starting to look more closely… ”said Angeli.“ Aren’t you going to say anything about Epstein? You are not responsible Trump … ”
