United States Vice President Jd Vance reiterated on Friday that his country “has no plans” to recognize Palestine as a state and that the priority now in the Gaza range is “eradicating” the terrorist group Hamas.
“We do not have plans to recognize the state of Palestine. I don’t know what it really means to recognize a Palestinian state, given the lack of a government in operation in the country,” Vance told reporters at the beginning of a meeting with United Kingdom Foreign Minister David Lammy in southern London.
“What [o presidente dos EUA, Donald Trump] It made it very clear are our two goals, which are very simple now. First, if we look at the situation in Israel and Gaza, what we want to achieve is that Hamas never again attacking Israeli citizens, and we believe this should be achieved by Hamas Eradication, ”he added.
Secondly, Vance commented that Trump was “moved” with the “terrible” images of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, so the US is trying to ensure that this problem is resolved.
“We have maintained constant negotiations and conversations, even in the last 24 hours, about how to bring more helps Gaza, how to solve this humanitarian problem and also how to put Hamas in a position where he cannot continue to threaten Israeli citizens and civilians,” he said.
In this sense, the vice president emphasized that “there is a lot of work to be done” and there are some “divergences” on how to achieve these shared goals.
Vance’s statements were made hours after the Israeli government’s security office gave a green light, at dawn, to the military plan proposed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to occupy the city of Gaza in the north of the Palestinian enclave.
The US vice president avoided answering a reporter’s question about whether Trump had been warned by Israel in advance about his plans for taking Gaza.
“I won’t talk about private conversations between the Israeli government and ours,” he refuted.
Vance arrived in the United Kingdom on Friday for a private holiday with his family, but the trip began with a bilateral meeting with Lammy to strengthen ties between the United Kingdom and the US and address important geopolitical issues.
“The United Kingdom and the United States can do a lot, I believe, to bring more peace and stability to the world,” said Vance.
The US Vice President also mentioned the intention to address new economic and technological agreements between the two countries.
