The government of President Donald Trump in the United States is due to disclose his annual human rights report in the world with harsh criticism of the abuse of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the Supreme Court (STF), and the persecution against right-wing supporters in Brazil. The information was published by the newspaper The Washington Post This Monday (11), based on preliminary documents from the State Department obtained by the report.
According to Postthe report will accuse the Brazilian government of “disproportionately suppressing the freedom of expression of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro”, pointing directly to Moraes as responsible for measures that have reached opponents of the current Lula government. The document mentions that the magistrate “personally ordered the suspension of more than 100 user profiles on social network X (former Twitter)”, significantly affecting communicators and members of the Brazilian right.
Currently, Minister Moraes is already under sanction of the magnitsky law because it was considered by the US government as a human rights violator. In addition to Moraes, seven other STF ministers were affected by the suspension of the American visa. The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, states that Minister Moraes committed “serious abuses of human rights, including arbitrary detention with blatant denial of guarantees of fair judgment and violations of freedom of expression.” Moraes, in turn, has been trying to ignore sanctions and continue acting normally.
Still according to the Washington Post, The report will also criticize South Africa. In the South African case, the document will cite the “expropriation of Africanic lands [fazendeiros sul-africanos brancos] and other abuses against racial minorities ”and will highlight US dissatisfaction with Pretoria’s support for Israeli actions at the International Court of Justice.
