The US State Department released on Tuesday (5) the list of countries included in a government pilot program to restrict the concession of the US entry visa.
With the new measure, announced on Monday (4), citizens of some selected countries wishing to enter US territory should have a security of up to $ 15,000 (about $ 82,000). Initially, Brazil was left out of the new requirement.
The list released on Tuesday includes, for now, only Zambia and Malaui. However, Donald Trump’s government has already signaled that it plans to insert new nations into the program. On the day of the announcement, the White House reported that the measure aims to prevent the entry of foreigners entering the US with visas of tourists or business and remain illegally in the country.
With the new program, citizens of the two listed countries who have approved visa must pay the security and will receive the amount of returning only after leaving the American territory. The measure is scheduled to take effect within two weeks.
The measure will allow the American consulates to decide on the imposition of a deposit to visa applicants in countries with high permanence rates outside the visa period, according to the text of the Federal Register. The program will affect B-1 visas applicants, which includes foreigners with interests in temporary US businesses, and B-2, for temporary travel for tourism and other purposes.
