The US State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the government of Canada from up to 60 LIGHT TACTICAL VEHICLES SETS (JLTV) and related equipment, in an estimated value of US $ 160 million.
A Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) Officially notified the US Congress on the decision last Friday.
In addition to the vehicles, the package requested by Canada includes up to nine JLTV load trailersas well as items not classified as Major Defense Equipment (MDE). These include communication systems, mobility equipment, lethality and survival improvements, spare parts, special tools and test equipment (STTE), technical manuals, maintenance coaches, training programs, full field support, deposit maintenance, repair services and logistical and programmatic support.
According to DSCA, the sale will contribute to reinforce the sharing of allies and partners, supporting peace operations and peacekeeping missions around the world. The agency also pointed out that the transaction “will not change the basic military balance in the region.”
