A study released on Thursday (14) conducted by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Brazilian Public Security Forum (FBSP) pointed out that six of the ten states with more cases of sexual violence against children and adolescents are in the Legal Amazon. The numbers are based on data from 2021 to 2023.
The state with the highest rate among the six that make up the Legal Amazon is Rondônia, which has over 234 records for every 100,000 people up to 19 years. Next, the state of Roraima with 228 cases appears, Mato Grosso with the record of 188, Pará with 174 cases, Tocantins reached about 174 and Acre was 163. All rates are for every 100,000 people up to 19 years.
The document also showed that, between 2021 and 2023, more than 38,000 cases of rape against children and adolescents were recorded in the region. In the same period, 10,125 cases of mistreatment against girls and boys were identified. The research also noted that most victims are black or brown.
