The online meeting scheduled for this Monday (11) between the United Nations Climate Office (UN) and the Extraordinary Secretariat of COP30 (30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change), was rescheduled for next Thursday (14). The conversation intends to deal with accommodation in Belém (PA), a city that will host the event.
The postponement was requested by the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the time for the new meeting has not yet been defined.
High prices of accommodation have generated dissatisfaction in some countries, especially to the least developed, due to the impossibility of participation and possible compromise of representativeness in the conference.
Last week, an entourage of the United Nations Department of safeguard and security (UNDSS) held inspections at the places that will receive the events. Presented by the Brazilian government, safety, health and mobility plans were approved by the UN technical team.
After reaffirming COP30 in the city of Belém, the organizers reported that the number of available beds already exceeds the demand generated by the 50,000 expected participants by more than 3,000.
In the first phase of the accommodation plan, 2,500 rooms with tariffs set between $ 100 and $ 600 were reserved for the 196 conference countries. Until last Friday (08), another 3.197 rooms were made available on the official hosting platform.
According to the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur), the stays are being offered in stages, with prices between US $ 220 and US $ 600 per night.
