Ukraine has received its eighth medium distance IRIS-T SLM air defense system from Germany-the other delivered in 2025.
The information was published by the German Aid to Ukraine project, which follows Germany’s military support for Kyiv.
“According to my information, Ukraine received its eighth IRIS-T SLM system two weeks ago as part of Germany’s continuous military support. This has further strengthened the capacity of the Ukrainian air defense, ”the project’s author reported.
With this delivery, the German government has already transferred two of the four systems promised for 2025.

IRIS-T SLM: Composition and capacity
According to the project, a typical system delivered to Ukraine consists of:
- 3 IRIS-T SLM utskytere
- 2 IRIS-T SLS short distance illuminators
- Trml-4d radar
- Control center
- Recharge vehicles
- Mobile spare parts warehouse
- Mobile workshop
Each system has a range of up to 40 km under ideal conditions and is very effective against drones, cruise missiles, hostile aircraft and other dimensions up to 20 km.
In June 2025, a unit from Lviv Air Protection Missilbrigade shot down seven Russian cruise missiles during its first battle with Iris-T SLM, and gradually replaced the old Soviet S-300-Systems.
“During the waiver of a massive rocket and air strike, seven Russian missiles entered our destruction zone. We shot them down one by one, ”commander Vitaliy said.
Iris-T, originally an infrared air-to-air missile, was adapted for ground-based launch. The SLM version can hit dimensions up to 40 km away, while the SLS version has a range of up to 12 km.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Partnerland has ordered 18 IRIS-T SLM systems for Ukraine:

The original contract was signed in June 2022, and as early as October of that year, Ukraine received its first system in record time.
