Ukraine received its eight medium air defense system Iris-T SLM from Germany-the second that was delivered in 2025.
The information was published by the German Aid to Ukraine project, which pursues Berlin’s military support for Kiev.
“According to my information, Ukraine received its eighth Iris-T SLM system two weeks ago as part of the continuous military support from Germany. This further strengthened the skills of the Ukrainian Air Force,” reported the author of the project.
With this delivery, the federal government has already handed over two of the four systems promised for 2025.

Iris-T SLM: Composition and skills
According to the project, a typical system supplied to Ukraine includes:
- 3 IRIS-T SLM-Launcher
- 2 short-haul launcher Iris-T SLS
- Trml-4D-radar
- Control center
- Loading vehicle
- Mobile spare parts warehouse
- Mobile workshop
Each system has a range of up to 40 km under ideal conditions and is highly effective against drones, marching missiles, enemy aircraft and other destinations of up to 20 km.
In June 2025, a unit of the LWIW aircraft missile brigade shot seven Russian cruise missiles with the Iris-T SLM during her first battle and gradually replaced the old Soviet S-300Systems.
“Seven Russian rockets penetrated our extermination zone while defending a massive rocket and air raid. We shot them down one after the other,” said Commander Vitaliy.
The Iris-T, originally an infrared air-air rocket, was adapted for Bodenstarts. The SLM version can fight goals up to 40 km away, while the SLS version has a range of up to 12 km.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, partner countries have ordered 18 Iris-T SLM systems for Ukraine:
- 17 financed by Germany
- 1 from Norway
The original contract was signed in June 2022, and in October of the same year the Ukraine received the first system in record time.
