Ukraine has received its eighth medium-range IRIS-T SLM air defense system from Germany, the second delivered in 2025.
The information was disclosed by the project German Aid to Ukraine, which tracks Berlin’s military assistance to Kyiv.
“According to my information, two weeks ago, as part of Germany’s ongoing military support, Ukraine received its eighth IRIS-T SLM system. This further strengthened the capabilities of the Ukrainian Air Force,” reported the project’s author.
With this delivery, the German government has already transferred two of the four systems promised for 2025.

According to the project, a typical system delivered to Ukraine includes:
- 3 IRIS-T SLM launchers
- 2 IRIS-T SLS short-range missile launchers
- Trml-4d radar
- Control center
- Reload vehicle
- Mobile spare parts depot
- Mobile workshop
Each system has a range of up to 40 km under ideal conditions and is highly effective against drones, cruise missiles, enemy aircraft, and other targets at altitudes up to 20 km.
In June 2025, a unit of the Lviv Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade shot down seven Russian cruise missiles during its first battle using the IRIS-T SLM, gradually replacing the old Soviet S-300 systems.
“During the repulsion of a massive missile and aircraft attack, seven Russian missiles entered our kill zone. We shot them down one by one,” said Commander Vitaliy.
The IRIS-T, originally an infrared-guided air-to-air missile, was adapted for ground launches. The SLM version can hit targets up to 40 km away, while the SLS has a range of up to 12 km.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, partner countries have ordered 18 IRIS-T SLM systems for Ukraine:
