United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday (30) that he intends to sign an executive order to demand voter identification in all votes without exceptions. The measure is part of a set of proposals to change the US electoral system before the middle election, scheduled for 2026.
According to Trump, the order should also limit vote by mail only to people severely sick or to military personnel outside the country. He again criticized this modality of voting, on the grounds that it is susceptible to fraud. Since 2020, the president has questioned the security of the electoral process in the United States.
“The voter’s identification document must be required in each vote. Without exceptions! I will issue an executive order to ensure this !!!”, said Trump in publication on the Truth Social platform. “There will be no vote by mail, except for seriously sick people and the military who are serving away from home.”
Another announced change is the end of the use of electronic ballot boxes, with the exclusive adoption of paper banknotes and manual counting. According to the president, this model would increase the transparency of the process.
The initiative raises legal doubts about the competence of the White House to change electoral rules, as in the US the administration of the elections is the responsibility of each state. Nevertheless, Trump says he will move on with the executive order, seeking to consolidate the changes before the next electoral cycle.
