The government of US President Donald Trump sent a letter to the direction of George Washington University (GWU) on Tuesday, located in the American capital, establishing a deadline for the institution to “voluntarily” problems detected by republican management.
In the document, the Justice Department (DOJ) reported that it concluded an investigation into GWU’s response to “anti -Semitic discrimination and harassment incidents against Jewish and Israeli students.”
“The department considers that, despite the real knowledge of the abuses that occurred on its campus, GWU was deliberately indifferent to the complaints received, the misconduct that occurred and the damage suffered by its students and teachers,” the DOJ said in the letter.
The department reported in the document that it plans to take action against the university based on Federal Civil Rights, but offered “the opportunity to sign a voluntary resolution agreement to ensure the immediate remediation of these problems and reforms related to prevent the recurrence of discrimination, harassment and abuse”.
The DOJ established that the university’s management should give an answer by August 22. GWU, whose campus had major protests last year against Israel due to the war in Gaza, has not yet commented on the matter.
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has blocked funds and investigated universities, arguing that these institutions have been conniving with anti -Semitism or practiced other forms of discrimination. In some cases, agreements with high values are being signed for universities to receive federal resources again.
Last week, US press said the Trump government is looking for a $ 1 billion agreement with the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).
Earlier, commitments were signed with Brown University of Rhode Island, worth $ 50 million in subsidies to be paid by the institution for labor development organizations, and with Columbia, from New York, which will pay US $ 200 million to the US Treasury over three years and another US $ 21 million to end investigations from the US Equal Equity Opportunity Commission, according to CN.
