United States President Donald Trump announced on Friday afternoon that he dismissed Erika McTefer, a commissioner of the Labor Statistics Department (BLS) hours after the agency released a report with bad job generation statistics in July.
“I just informed that the ‘jobs about jobs’ in our country are being produced by one indicated by [Joe] Biden [antecessor de Trump]Dr. Erika McNTAFER, a work company commissioner, who falsified the numbers of jobs before the election to try to increase the chances of Kamala’s victory [Harris, candidata democrata na eleição presidencial de 2024]”Trump accused, in a post on the Truth Social Network.
“I ordered my team that it dismisses this policy nominated by Biden immediately. It will be replaced by someone much more competent and qualified. Important numbers like these must be fair and accurate; they cannot be manipulated for political purposes,” the US president wrote.
Earlier, the BLS had pointed out in its monthly report that only 73,000 jobs (less layoffs) were created in the United States in July. The department also revised job creation in May and June and reported that there were 258,000 less than previously informed.
According to CNN, the data from May to July represented the lowest pace of hiring in the United States in a period of three months since 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. McNTAFER has not yet commented on Trump’s accusations.
