Trump asks China to quickly quad soybean purchase

United States President Donald Trump has asked China to “quickly quadruple” his shopping from American farmers soybeans, a day before the end of the Republican’s truce with Beijing to negotiate a new trade agreement.

“China is concerned about soybean scarcity. Our large farmers will produce the most robust soybeans. I hope China quickly quadruples its soybean requests. This is also a way to substantially reduce its commercial deficit with the US,” the US president wrote on his network, to his network, Truth Social No Sunday (10).

Trump assured that “a quick service will be provided” in the face of increased demand for the product.

“Thank you, President XI (Jinping),” concluded his message.

Agricultural products are fundamental to commercial dispute between the two countries, especially after Trump intensified the trade war against their partners and raised foreign products to levels never seen in decades.

The US President was to the point of imposing 145% tariffs on Chinese products, while China has increased its rates on US products to 125%.

In May this year, both agreed in Geneva to reduce rates – Washington reduced them to 30% and Beijing to 10% – and also agreed with a 90 -day truce, which ends on Tuesday (12).

After a first meeting in Geneva and a phone call between Trump and Xi, negotiators on both sides gathered in London, where China approved the export of rare land to the US, which in turn canceled “restrictive measures” of Beijing, such as chip export controls.

Negotiators gathered a third time in Stockholm last month, where they expressed the willingness to extend the deadline for negotiations, although this announcement has not yet been confirmed.

US commercial representative Jamieson Greer later said in an interview with “CBS” broadcaster that both sides are “working” to extend the respite, while Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick said another “about 90 days” break was possible.
