United States President Donald Trump announced on Monday through a publication on his social truth network, which will “substantially” increase rates on India imported products. The decision, according to Trump, is a direct response to high volume purchases of Russian oil by the Indian government and the resale of this oil in the international market. The measure occurs amid the continuity of war in Ukraine and the international debate on the indirect financing of the Russian war machine.
In the post, the US president stated that “India is not just buying massive amounts of Russian oil, they are, for much of the acquired oil, reselling in the open market to make major profits. They do not care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian war machine.”
Despite the announcement, Trump did not detailed what will be the new percentage of the fare or which products will be affected by the measure.

India, the world’s third largest oil importer, adopted a neutral and pragmatic posture in the Ukraine war and has gone from importing less than 2% of its oil from Russia to more than one third, making this country the main supplier and taking advantage of the discounts offered.
