Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) officially reported the US Congress about the decision last Friday.
In addition to the vehicles the package required by Canada includes up to nine JLTV freight trailersas well as items not included between Major Defense Equipment (MDE). These include communication systems, mobility equipment, lethality and survival improvements, spare parts, special tools and test devices (STTE), technical manuals, maintenance training, complete field support, depot maintenance, repair services and logistics and program support.
According to DSCA, sales will contribute to strengthening stress sharing with allies and partners, supporting peace operations and missions to maintain peace around the world. The Office also stressed that the transaction “will not change the basic military balance in the region”.
The main suppliers responsible for the production and delivery of vehicles will be AM General, LLC with units in Auburn Hills (Michigan) and Mishawaka (Indiana).
