The White House envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, visited a Gaza’s aid distribution station on Friday, a day after President Donald Trump again charged Israel about the humanitarian situation at the enclave.
Witkoff said today that the intention of the United States is to “elaborate a plan to deliver food and medical help to the population” to Palestinian territory.
“Today we spent more than five hours in Gaza analyzing the facts on site, evaluating the conditions and meeting us with the GAZA Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) and other agencies. The purpose of the visit was to give the president a clear understanding of the humanitarian situation and help elaborate a plan to deliver food and medical help to the population of Gaza,” Witkoff said in a message at X.
Witkoff, accompanied by American ambassador Mike Huckabe, visited a GHF food distribution point on Friday morning, an American organization in Rafah.
The visit occurs at a time when Trump, in a change of speech, has been increasing the collection of Israel about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
On Thursday (31), at a news conference at the White House, Trump was asked if he agreed with the opinion of republican deputy Marjorie Taylor Greene, that “genocide” would be occurring in Gaza, and said Israel needs to improve the monitoring of assistance distribution at the enclave.
“Oh, it’s terrible what’s going on there, yes,” replied Trump. “It’s a terrible thing. People are very hungry. You know, the United States has donated $ 60 million for food. And it’s a shame, because, I know, I don’t see the results of it. And we have given people who are closely monitoring. We want Israel to monitor it.
On Monday (28), Trump had already contested a statement by his ally, Israeli’s premie, Benjamin Netanyahu, and stated that there is a hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip.
“It’s really hunger,” Trump told his four -day visit to Scotland. “I see, and you can’t pretend. So let’s get even more involved.”
At the time, Trump had already maintained the terrorist group Hamas for the delay in the distribution of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, but also said that Israel “has a lot of responsibility” for the crisis in the Palestinian enclave.
