At least eight people died in an attack in front of a nightclub in the rural area of Santa Lúcia, in the coastal province of Guayas, considered one of the most dangerous in the country, according to the Associated Press (AP) news agency. Seven victims, aged 22 to 40, died at the scene and one in the hospital. Three other people were injured.
According to the newspaper El Comercio, one of the dead is Jorge Luis Urquizo Ferruzol, brother of the mayor of the city, Ubaldo Urquizo Mora. The local publication reports that the suspects were armed with long -range rifles and arrived at the scene with motorcycles and two cars. Agents of the Violent Death Unit and Missing Persons (Dinased) and the Criminalistics Unit collected evidence at the shooting site.
