A sergeant of active attacked a US Army base in Georgia on Wednesday (6). According to the American press, at least five soldiers were injured in Fort Stewart.
Emergency teams attended the injured military on site and then took them to the Winn Army Community Hospital. Officers detained the shooter, a 28 -year -old man, the military base reported on Facebook.
A police officer told CNN that the shooter had already been arrested in May on a traffic blitz for driving under the influence of alcohol.
“The incident is being determined, and no additional information will be disclosed until the investigation is completed,” said the base, which is southwest of the city of Savannah and where about 10,000 people live among members of the Armed Forces and their families.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump was informed about the attack on Fort Stewart, Georgia. “The White House is monitoring the situation,” he wrote in X.
The US Army base trains and mobilizes active units and the Army Reserve and houses the 3rd Infantry Division. It is located about 64 kilometers southwest of Savannah, Georgia.
At X, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp lamented the shooting and said he is in direct and constant contact with the police authorities.
“As we maintain close contact with police authorities on the field, Marty, the girls and I are sad about today’s tragedy in FT. Stewart. We keep the victims, their families and all those who serve the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask Georgians everywhere to do the same,” he wrote.
