North Korea plans to send M-20110’s M-20110 Cheonma-D tanks and BTR-80 armored vehicles to Russia, along with their crews.
The information was confirmed by Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s defense intelligence, who emphasized that although some teams could do mine clearance work and construction of fortifications, it is not clear whether this will be the only purpose of the mission.
In mid -June, Pyongyan had already announced the sending of about 6,000 technical soldiers to the Kursk region in Russia for mining and reconstruction tasks. Budanov warned that this mobilization could allow North Korea to be involved in combat operations, taking advantage of his experience in large-scale war situations that resemble the current war between Ukraine and Russia.
The M-20110 Cheonma-D, based on the Soviet BTR-80A, has an 8 × 8 wheel configuration and is active in North Korea. Recently, the country has also introduced the new Cheonma-2 tanks previously mentioned as Western sources, which was previously referred to as M-2020 or M-2024, based on the dates of military parades and practices.
