Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced on Friday (1) that Kremlin began mass production of the Oreshnik, medium-range ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads. The announcement came after US President Donald Trump said he positioned two nuclear submarines in “appropriate regions” after provocations of an ally of Putin.
Trump’s threat had been a response directed at former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, who currently is part of Kremlin’s management as vice president of the Security Council and is not considered by analysts a precise spokesman for Putin’s policy. He had been making repeated nuclear threats against the West since the start of the large -scale Russian invasion in Ukraine.
Putin’s announcement on the Oreshnik missiles was seen as a response of the same level to Trump, marking a climbing in nuclear rhetoric. Russian weaponry has already been used with non -nuclear explosives to attack Ukraine.
In the announcement, made alongside Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin said he has plans to send Oreshniks to Belarus in September.
“Preparatory work is underway, and we will most likely be concluded before the end of the year,” Putin said, pointing out that the first wave of the Oreshniks missiles has already been produced and incorporated by the Russian army.
In November last year, Russia used the Oreshniks for the first time to attack Ukraine, shot a factory in Dnipro, the fourth largest city in the country.
After the attack, Putin praised the weaponry adding and lied by stating that his destruction power is as powerful as a nuclear weapon.
At the time, Moscow used armament in response to the US government, at the time led by Joe Biden, after the former president authorized the use of Ukraine long-range American missiles against Russia.
Capacidades Do Oreshnik
Ballistic missiles such as ORESHNIK are difficult to intercept for anti -aircraft defenses. After the attack in Dnipro last year, Putin stated that US defense systems would not be able to stop their missiles, which has a flight capacity ten times higher than the speed of sound. Most ballistic missiles reach these speeds since they were created in the Cold War.
In addition, missiles have the ability to carry six to eight nuclear warheads, according to Russian military – in a system where the missile is divided into several smaller warheads during the flight to attack multiple targets.
They are able to travel between 500 and 5,500 kilometers and were banned by a Treaty signed in the Soviet era, which the United States and Russia abandoned in 2019. According to Russia, Oreshnik has enough range to reach the entire European territory. According to the news agency Reutersthe range of the weapon could extend to the west coast of the United States.
Putin has already highlighted Oreshnik as a “high precision weapon” and stressed that “no one in the world” has a system like Oreshnik.
“Yes, sooner or later other powers will also have it […] But that will be tomorrow, or in a year or two, and we have now and that’s the important thing, ”Putin said in November last year.

The announcement of the production of mass Oreshniks comes shortly after US President Donald Trump states that he positioned two nuclear submarines in “appropriate regions” after provocations of an ally of Putin.
In response to nuclear threats made by former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, Trump ordered the repositioning of two US nuclear submarines against Russia. He did not explain whether submarines are nuclear weapons launchers or vessels powered by nuclear engines.
“Based on the highly provocative statements of former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now vice president of the Russian Federation Security Council, I ordered the position of two nuclear submarines in the appropriate regions, in case of these foolish and inflammatory statements to be more than just that. Words are very important and can often lead to unwanted consequences. American in Truth Social.
Earlier this week, Medvedev had criticized the ultimatum that Trump had imposed on Russia to end the invasion in Ukraine and warned that this republican position could lead to direct conflict between the two countries.
“Trump is playing the Ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10 days? He should remember two things. First: Russia is neither Israel nor Iran. And second: each new ultimatum is one step towards the war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country,” wrote former Russian president in X.
On the 28th, Trump stipulated a new 10 -day deadline for Putin to negotiate the end of the war with Ukraine. In another X publication on Friday, the US President said that nearly 20,000 Russian military personnel died in the war this month and that the number so far this year reaches 112,500.
