PT criticizes US ships approximation on the coast of Venezuela

In a note signed by Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE), the Workers Party criticized President Donald Trump’s movement against Venezuela and reaffirmed support for the diplomatic principles of Brazilian foreign policy in defense of sovereignty. On Saturday (30), the US government sent another warship to the region, indicating the risk of possible intervention in the country and increasing the pressure on dictator Nicolás Maduro.

“We do not accept threats, nor so little violent acts against Venezuela. Our region wants to remain an example to the world of peaceful coexistence and cooperation, based on respectful dialogue, as provided for in international law and the United Nations Charter. We do not need authoritarian interventions, alien to overcome our challenges,” says the statement released by Costa, who is also a national PT International Relations.

“At this time, it is imperative that serenity prevails. Threats and violent acts disrespect our tradition of dialogue and the construction of peaceful solutions to the problems of South America,” follows the senator’s note.

Stephen Miller, who is Donald Trump’s chief of staff, said on Friday (29) that the objective of US military actions against Venezuela in the Southern Caribbean Sea is to dismantle foreign terrorist cartels and factions in the southern hemisphere.

On Saturday, a new vessel designed for air defense and capable of loosening long -range missiles docked on the Panama Canal from the Pacific Ocean. The ship adds to the other seven already displaced to the region. A fast -powered nuclear -powered submarine was also sent to the Southern Caribbean Sea. About 4,500 sailors are aboard the US vessels.
