Pope Leo XIV prayed on Sunday so that God will “interrupt the pandemic of arms” after the shooting on August 27 at a Catholic School of Minnesota, which killed two children. During the weekly prayer in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope dedicated prayers to the victims of the shooting. He pleaded to God “to stop the pandemic of the large and small weapons that infects our world.”
During his statement, the Pontiff also reiterated his appeal for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, asking the faithful not to indifferent, and turned their thoughts to the wreck migrant victims on the Atlantic coast of Mauritânia. This was also a rare moment when the Pope went to the faithful in English. Leo XIV usually prefers to use the Italian, the official language of the papacy.
