Warsaw-Poland has signed a $ 3.8 billion contract with the United States to modernize its entire 48 F-16-fucking fleet with Block 52 for the most advanced standard V Block 72, the Ministry of National Defense announced on Wednesday (13).
The modernization work will be done at Military Aviation Workshops No. 2, in Bydgoszcz, ensuring long -term jobs and strengthening the national defense industry.
The signing of the agreement was attended by deputy prime minister and defense minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda. The package includes not only aircraft update, but also radar systems, communications, friend-friend identification, simulators, coaches and terrestrial infrastructure.
Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed out that modernization will increase interoperability with F-35 fighters, Abrams tanks and Apache helicopters acquired by Poland. He also stressed that the Foreign Military Finncing program helped secure $ 11 billion in favorable loan guarantees.
“After 20 years, the current capabilities of the F-16 C/D version are no longer enough to face threats. We need to improve recognition, communications and integration with other systems,” the minister said, adding that the goal is to put Poland among the three main members of OTAN in operational capabilities.
The schedule foresees the start of work in 2028, with estimated conclusion for 2038.
Purchased in the early 2000s to replace Soviet Age aircraft, Poles F-16 have been active in NATIONAL AIR DEFENSE, OTAN BALTIC AIR MISSION and several allied operations abroad.
