Paraguayan Interior Minister Enrique Riera said in an interview with CNN that the South American country will create an anti-terrorism center with support from the United States, focusing on the collection of intelligence information about the terrorist group Hezbollah.
He said the unit will be installed in Asuncion, with 15 police officers who were formed by the FBI, the American Federal Police, and that there will be a base on the Paraguayan side of the triple border.
“Paraguay will have an anti -terrorist center with support from the FBI. We declared Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, and not only armed men, but all party members,” Riera said, who said the anti -terrorism center will also act against organized crime and that there will be more contact with the Ministries of Justice of Brazil and Argentina.
Paraguayan agents are also receiving training from carabineans from Chile and Colombian police, the minister reported.
The government of US President Donald Trump announced in May a reward of up to $ 10 million for those who provide information that leads to the interruption of Hezbollah financial schemes in the triple border region.
The initiative is part of the Rewards for Justice program, managed by the US State Department, which seeks to weaken the financing of international terrorist organizations.
