Netanyahu says Israel will assume military control of Gaza

by Marcelo Moreira

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that he intends to assume military control of the entire Gaza Strip, despite growing criticisms in the country and abroad.

“We intend to,” Netanyahu said in an interview with the American media when asked if Israel would take control of the entire coastal territory. “We don’t want to keep it. We want to have a security perimeter.”

The comments were made shortly before a meeting with a group of military and ministers to discuss the next plans.

Full control of the 2005 Israeli decision would revert, which withdrew Israeli citizens and soldiers from Gaza, maintaining control over its borders, airspace and public services.

The United Nations (UN) called reports about a possible expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza of “deeply alarming.”

US President Donald Trump refused on Tuesday to say whether he supported or opposed a possible total military shot of Gaza by Israel.
