The Public Prosecution Service of São Paulo (MP-SP) expanded on Monday (4) the investigation on possible irregularities in the management of Duílio Monteiro and Andrés Sanchez ahead of Corinthians. In addition to the initial suspicion of misuse of the corporate card, the MP now investigates possible crimes of estelionate, qualified theft, ideological falsehood, misappropriation and criminal association.
The new phase of the inquiry focuses on presidency expenses between 2020 and 2023. The MP sent a letter to the club requesting detailed documents about the use of corporate cards and data on contract providers. The suspicious prosecutor’s Office that part of the payments may have been made to facade companies, with diversion of money.
One of the main fronts of the investigation involves the alleged bond of the club with the “OLIVEIRA MINIMERCADO”, which issued seven invoices in the total amount of R $ 32,580. When visiting the address informed in the documents, the prosecutor Cássio Roberto Conseino, responsible for the case, did not find any establishment on site, an indication that the company can be “orange”.
These expenses are included in an internal report of Corinthians, signed by Denilson Grillo, former driver of Duílio. The document is dated October 31, 2023. Grillo, who has become investigated, said he did not recognize his own signature. The spending attributed to Duílio in this report exceed R $ 80 thousand. The former president denies the accusations and says that the values are forged.
In the case of Andrés Sanchez, the MP identified the use of the corporate card in personal expenses that total more than $ 15,000. He recognized the debt and reimbursed the club with correction. However, new extracts revealed spending on destinations such as Fernando de Noronha and Spain, pointed out by profile publications @prmalaoficial on social network X.
Given the suspicions, the MP recommended to the current board of Corinthians the immediate implementation of internal control mechanisms, compliance policies, conduct codes and measures of integrity and governance. The recommendation was based on recent statements by the Chairman of the Deliberative Council, Romeu Tuma Júnior.
As part of the investigation, interim president Osmar Stabile, Vice Armando Mendonça and Tuma Júnior himself, as well as former board members, such as financial manager Roberto Gavioli and former director Matías Romano Ávila will be heard.
Stabile reported that the club has already registered a police report and collaborates with the MP. Tuma also opened an internal investigation over the use of cards.
Corinthians has not yet manifested.
