Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined this Friday (29) the unlocking of the salary and social networks of Senator Marcos do Val (Somos). The decision also releases the cabinet money and authorizes the removal of the electronic anklet that monitors the parliamentarian.
Moraes complied with a request from the presidency of the Senate, who questioned the maintenance of precautionary measures. The legal advice of the House filed an application for temporary license of the mandate made by VAL, in which the senator claimed that judicial restrictions prevented him from serving and declared respect to democratic institutions.
Unlocking reaches salaries, parliamentary funds, bank accounts, vehicles, real estate, investments and all social networking profiles, including Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, Tiktok, X and Youtube. With this, the senator can resume the use of the platforms and access their financial resources again.
Despite the relief, Moraes maintained two measures: the seizure of Val’s passports and the ban on him to leave the country. For the minister, these restrictions are still necessary in the face of ongoing investigations in the Federal Supreme Court.
The precautionary measures had been imposed in July, after the Federal Police reported that the senator left the country in Manaus to Miami using diplomatic passport, in breach of the order to deliver the document. From then on, Moraes blocked goods, salaries and social networks, as well as imposing electronic monitoring and night collection.
In the new decision, Moraes argued that the situation has changed. The senator returned to the national territory, had the passports seized and filed a request for removal from the mandate. The magistrate also considered public statements by the parliamentary in defense of the Democratic Rule of Law.
Even with the unlocking of social networks, Moraes established a daily fine of R $ 20,000 in case of new publications that configure misinformation, hatred discourse or attacks on democratic institutions. According to the order, the penalty is preventive to avoid further episodes.
Marcos do Val is the target of two inquiries in the STF. One of them determines the supposed attempt to draft a plan to nullify the 2022 presidential election. The other investigates possible offenses and attacks on Federal Police investigators.
In the final report of the Federal Police, presented in August, the senator was indicted alongside Allan dos Santos, Oswaldo Eustáquio and Ednardo Raposo. The findings remain in progress in the Supreme.
