Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum defended Nicolás Maduro on Friday (8), a day after the United States have doubled the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the Venezuela dictator (the offer now is $ 50 million).
In the announcement of the change on Thursday night (7), Trump Attorney General Pam Bondi said that Maduro has connections with Venezuelan gangs Tren de Aragua, Los Soles cartel (of which the dictator would be leader, according to the US) and the Mexican Cartel de Sinalo and that the Tyran of Venezuela is “one of the world’s largest drug traffickers.”
On Friday, Sheinbaum was asked at a press conference if he knew about mature relations with the Sinaloa cartel and, according to Reuters agency, replied that it was the first time he heard to talk about it.
“On the part of Mexico, there is no investigation related to this,” said the Mexican president.
“As we always say, if they have any evidence, show. We have no proof,” added the leftist representative.
In a post on Telegram, Venezuela Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto criticized the US for increasing the reward for information leading to Maduro’s capture or conviction.
Pametica Pametica Pamela Bondi is the more ridiculous smoke curtain we’ve ever seen. While we unmask terrorist plans orchestrated by her country, this lady creates a media circus to please the extreme right defeated in Venezuela, ”wrote Gil.
“It doesn’t surprise us from those who come. The same one that promised a non -existent ‘secret list’ [de clientes] do [financista Jeffrey] Epstein [que morreu na prisão em 2019 enquanto aguardava julgamento por acusações de tráfico sexual]and that is sinking into scandals of political favor, ”said the Venezuelan chancellor, citing the episode that has been wearing Trump politically.
The United States had offered in 2020, in the first Donald Trump management, a reward of $ 15 million for information that led to Maduro’s arrest and/or conviction, and on January 10 this year, still in the Joe Biden government, increasing the offer to $ 25 million. Now they have doubled this value.
The initial reward was offered when Maduro was indicted by a New York Federal Court for narcoterrorism accusations, conspiracy to bring cocaine to the United States, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy for possession of machine guns and destructive devices.
