Melania Trump sends letter to Putin about kidnapped children

The first American lady, Melania Trump, sent a letter directed to the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin about the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, a practice exercised by Moscow.

The document was delivered by White House Chief Donald Trump, Putin during the summit between them, which occurred yesterday (16), in Alaska, according to information from the news agency Reuters. The full text was not disclosed by American authorities or Kremlin.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Melania for the gesture during a republican call after the meeting with the Kremlin boss. Already Andrii Sybiha, the Ukrainian chancellor, classified the attitude of the American first lady as an “act of humanism.”

The expected meeting between Trump Eeo Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, on Friday at an anchorage military base in Alaska, ended without a deal for a ceasefire in Ukraine, but both leaders expressed their tune and the American classified conversations as “extremely productive.”

Kidnapping

In March 2023, the ICC issued an arrest warrant against Putin and Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, a commissioner for the rights of the child of Russia, for the crime of kidnapping war of more than 19,000 Ukrainian children, who were sent to orphanages or delivered for adoption by strange families in Russia.

“Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, born on October 7, 1952, president of the Russian Federation, is allegedly responsible for the illegal deportation war crime (children) and illegal transfer of population (children) of occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation,” the statement of conviction said.

Russia claims that the decision “makes no sense” and says its actions were only to protect vulnerable minors from a conflict zone.

“The decisions of the International Criminal Court have no meaning for our country, including from a legal point of view,” said Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for Russian diplomacy.

According to the UN (United Nations), since the invasion of Russia, between February 24, 2022 and December 31, 2024, 669 children died and 1,833 were injured, mainly because of the extensive use of explosive weapons in civil and populated areas.

Also according to the organization, 521 died and 1,529 were injured in Ukraine -controlled territory, while 148 died and 304 were injured in areas occupied by Moscow.

In March this year, the UN condemned the “unimaginable” suffering of millions of Ukrainian children in more than 3 years since the beginning of the war.
