A man has revealed a strategy that dealers often use to tire you out as you try to buy a new car, and it’s gone viral.

Zachposted on TikTok about what happened last weekend when he went to the dealership to buy a new pickup truck. However, after talking to the salesperson for a while, he suddenly disappeared.

“Have you ever tried to buy a pickup truck and the salesperson disappeared for 30 minutes? And you think: ‘Oh, I just want to buy a truck. Sell me the truck. What’s wrong?'” he asked his followers.

It may seem counterintuitive to let salespeople wait customers for long periods of time, but some people think this is actually a sales strategy.

“This is how they tire you. Tell them not to waste their time and start walking away, and they’ll move faster,” commented one user.

“My best phrase: ‘I just came to buy a truck. Don’t get in the way. Don’t try to sell the extras. Don’t tell me you need something. I know what I came to buy.’ Don’t be kind; it’s you who pays,” another user wrote.

“As a former CFO, this is a sales tactic. I highly recommend using their phone in the showroom to call another dealer. After that, things go very quickly,” the third user added.

This “waiting time game” occurs when the sales team is hoping that things will be stretched too long, and the buyer will run out of time or get too tired to agree to something that he would normally not agree with.
