Maduro has committed electoral fraud and pursues opponents

by Marcelo Moreira

The Organization of American States (OAS) confirmed on Wednesday (6) that the regime of Nicolás Maduro practiced electoral fraud and continuously continuously violating human rights in Venezuela. In a report by the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the organization pointed out that the Venezuelan dictatorship refuses to publicize the official results of the presidential election that were held in 2024, which prevents and hides confirmation of the victory of the opposing platform.

In addition to hiding the electoral data, the document denounces the intensification of state repression against Maduro protesters and opponents. According to the IACHR, thousands of people are still being arbitrarily arrested in Venezuela, and these arrests intensified after the 2024 elections. Among the detainees are teenagers and low -income civilians. The agency also pointed out that, among the dead during the protests against the electoral fraud that occurred in the country, virtually all are civilians and, so far, only one victim belonged to the security forces.

The OAS drew attention to cases of prolonged arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances and reports of abuse to political prisoners, many of which follow without access to lawyers or family members. The report also warns of the advance of authoritarianism and the dismantling of democratic institutions in the country.

Several countries in the Americas, such as the United States, Argentina, Canada and others, took advantage of the session to openly condemn the Maduro regime and defend new sanctions against the Chavista dictatorship. On the other hand, representatives of the Brazilian government who were present at the session avoided criticism against the Maduro regime, alleging respect for Venezuelan sovereignty.
