Lula: “We have always been open to dialogue”

by Marcelo Moreira

This Friday (1), through social networks, President Lula responded to Donald Trump’s speech about his willingness to receive a call: “He can call me when he wants.”

Faced with the tensions experienced on both sides in recent weeks, Lula said he was always willing to talk to the American.

“We have always been open to dialogue. Who defines the direction of Brazil are Brazilians and their institutions. At this time, we are working to protect our economy, companies and our workers, and give responses to the US government’s tariff measures.”

Lula, before the speech of the American executive leader, criticized the tax imposed on Brazil. In addition, he directed speech to Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro.

“And now he goes with the disadvantage ‘Brazil above all’, but first the United States. It’s a lack of shame, a lack of character, a lack of patriotism.”

Trump also stated that he loves the Brazilian people, but spared no criticism of the government, saying that they did many wrong things. The presidents have not yet talked, since the beginning of the diplomatic fight between Brazil and the United States.

The taxation will start next Thursday (6). Products such as oil, plane parts and orange juice will be exempt from the rate of 50%. However, coffee and meat are on the list of products taxed.
