On Tuesday (5), President Lula announced that he will call Donald Trump, leader of the American executive, to invite him to participate in the United Nations Conference, COP 30, which will be held in Belém, Pará.
Amid the recent diplomatic fight between Brazil and the United States, presidents of both countries had no contact. However, last Friday (1), Trump announced in an interview that Lula can call him the time he wants.
After the statement, Lula said he was always open to dialogue with the American:
“We have always been open to dialogue. Who defines the directions of Brazil are Brazilians and their institutions. At this time, we are working to protect our economy, companies and our workers, and give the responses to the tariff measures of the US government.”
The Brazilian president, Lula, said that his connection with Trump will have no matter about trade. According to him, the leader of the American executive “does not want to talk” about it. However, Lula reiterated that the invitation to participate in COP 30 will be made.
“It can be right. I’ll call Trump to invite him to COP to know what he thinks about the climate issue. I’ll be kind to call.”
The Brazilian government found it difficult to talk to Americans. By announcing the increase in tariffs, Trump claims that there is a persecution against former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Boconist allies want the end of amnesty, a measure imposed by the Supreme Court Minister (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, those involved in the invasion of the Supreme Court on January 8, 2023. In addition, they also ask the minister’s impeachment for human rights violation.
COP 30 and the United States
In early 2025 in January, Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris Agreement, one of his first measures in office. With this, the country’s participation in COP 30 was uncertain. In addition, the US withdrew from the compensation fund to developing countries.
Trump’s government has also taken over the return of oil protagonism, weakening the energy transitional efforts, one of the agenda discussed in COP 30.
