Lula authorizes actions against tariffs based on the economic reciprocity law

by Marcelo Moreira

President Lula authorized the beginning of consultations to apply actions against Donald Trump’s tariff based on economic reciprocity law. The government has already called the Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex), which has 30 days to assess whether to apply and respond to the request.

This Thursday (28), Lula also said that the Brazilian government has not yet been able to contact American diplomacy to deal with the imposed rates on products exported by Trump, which began at the beginning of August.

The petista called for commitment to Brazil in the midst of the crisis with the United States and said the Trump government suspended the meeting scheduled with Finance Minister Fernando Haddad to fulfill a request from Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, one of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s sons and has been in the United States since the beginning of the year. For the Brazilian president, this was a demonstration of lack of seriousness with Brazil, and reiterates that the negotiation channels are still open.

The extra 50% extra fare has been in force since August 6 on a considerable part of the products Brazil sells the most to Americans, such as meat, coffee and shoes.
