See Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s First Public Appearance as a Married Couple
Jeff Bezos and his family are mourning a major loss.
Just weeks after the Amazon founder tied the knot with Lauren Sánchez Bezos in Italy, the Bezos Family Foundation shared the sad news that Jeff’s mother Jackie Bezos died peacefully in her Miami home on Aug 14. She was 78.
Her cause of death was listed as a five-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive brain disorder.
The foundation described her last years as “a quiet final chapter to a life that taught all of us, friends and family alike, the true meaning of grit and determination, kindness, and service to others.”
Jeff, 61, also spoke out with a personal message honoring his mother, who had him when she and husband Ted Jorgensen were teenagers in New Mexico.
“Her adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17,” the Amazon founder wrote on Instagram Aug. 14. “That couldn’t have been easy, but she made it all work. She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish.”
