Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog, accused on Monday (4) the United Nations of delaying the delivery of humanitarian aid that, according to him, his country is allowing to enter Gaza and denounced that the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas is making false allegations about the humanitarian situation at the enclave.
During a visit to Vilnius in Lithuania, Herzog said that Israel is performing “huge efforts” in the humanitarian context and to comply with international law, and assured that only this week came into the Gaza Strip 23,000 tons of terrestrial humanitarian aid.
“There are hundreds of trucks that are still waiting for distribution and the United Nations are not advancing with distribution,” he said, after meeting with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who in a news conference criticized that “hunger cannot be used as a tool for political or military struggle.”
The Lithuanian President noted that the Baltic country supports “Israel’s right to self -defense in line with international law.”
However, at the same time, he emphasized that “the protection of civilians and humanitarian personnel”, as well as the availability of infrastructure and essential resources “is not negotiable.”
“We ask the Israeli government to adopt urgent measures to solve the humanitarian crisis, ensuring a supply and distribution of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, in particular to women and children,” said Nauseda.
In turn, Herzog denounced that Hamas is launching “false accusations,” while ignoring his own responsibility for the suffering of the population of Gaza.
The Israeli President of Lituan Roots also showed a photo of one of the hostages in the hands of Hamas, Evyatar David, who also has origins in the same Baltic country.
“Look at the hijacker’s arm, which is fat, robust, and fleshy, and look at the skeletal and thin body of the hostage. His life is in serious danger,” he said, pointing to the image.
The two presidents also referred to the Jewish community in Lithuania, which was decimated in the Holocaust during the Nazi occupation of the Baltic country between 1941 and 1945.
Herzog announced that he would visit a forest where Jews were executed during the Holocaust and spoke of the “eternal moral imperative of never forgetting and never crossing his arms before anti -Semitism and hatred.”
